School Clubs

THE SCHOOL DAY STARTS EARLY AT WINDWHISTLE AND WE WORK WITH THE COMMUNITY TO PROVIDE CHILDCARE AS WELL AS EDUCATION

BREAKFAST CLUB

Breakfast Club begins at 8 am.  Children can come to Breakfast Club for 40p per day.  They have their breakfast with games and supervision until school begins at 8.45 am.

Many of our children and parents find this enables them to make a good start to the day. Breakfast club is at present subsidised by external funding.

MUSIC TEACHING

Violin and keyboard classes are run in school by teachers from the Local Authority’s peripatetic music teaching service.  These classes need to be paid for in advance.  Costs are kept as low as possible to encourage children to take part.

DOWN ON THE FARM

We are very lucky to have a partnership with Alvis Bros. who farm at Lye Cross Farm near Bristol Airport. This means that the children are able to visit the farm regularly.

The children go to the farm to look at a variety of things including chickens, farm machinery and cheese making.  They can use the farm as a resource for learning Geography, Science and History. This project won the Radio 4 Farming Education award in 2003 and is the subject of Action Research by Bath University.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Children have access to a number of activities either during lunchtime or after school, eg Chess, Multi-skills, table tennis, football . . . .

Most of these activities run for fixed periods and are available to a specific number of children.

LUNCHTIME PLAY AND CRAFT CLUB

This takes place in KS1 and KS2 classes on a rota basis.  It is led by school staff and provides a quiet, place away from the busy playground where some children choose to spend their playtime making cards, drawing and painting.
