Home Learning - Reception Week beginning June 1st 2020
Hello everyone,
We hope you are all safe and well and had an enjoyable half term. Mrs Newton and Mrs Collery are in the process of preparing for children returning to school soon. We will be very excited to welcome the children back. However, we understand that not all children will be returning for the last term.
To continue with home learning for the rest of the term we suggest you use some of the resources listed in the table below. Learning from previous weeks will remain on the website in case you missed anything or would like to revisit.

Hello everyone,
Well done everyone for staying home and being safe. Mrs Newton and Mrs Collery are missing all the reception class very much. You have been doing some absolutely fantastic home learning. We love seeing your happy faces on Facebook and Tapestry, well done everybody. We have got some new activities for you to try this week. Mrs Newton and Mrs Collery have been trying out some new wake and shake songs. Our favourite is “Can’t stop the Feeling” and we have included it on Monday’s learning.
Remember it is important to read with your child everyday. Our school has recently acquired a reading programme called Bug Club that we’d like to share with you. Bug Club is an exciting reading scheme to ensure all children can find books at exactly the right level for them to read and enjoy. Money: Have a look at coins in your adults’ purse (make sure you ask their permission first). In particular 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p. What do they look like? What can you see on them? Look at these online links.

Follow the lesson from the Oak National Academy on Little Red Riding Hood
If you don’t have access to the internet. Read/Tell your child the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Encourage your child to talk about their favourite part of the story. Draw/make the wolf from the story. Add word labels to the wolf, e.g. teeth, ears.

Shadow drawing Chose some objects and place them on top of the paper. Put the objects and paper in sunlight or use a torch (I-pad torch or phone torch). Draw carefully around the objects.

Try some coin rubbing.
How to do a Coin Rubbing
Get your sheet of paper and put the coin on top, hold the two steady and start rubbing the crayon or pencil over the coin. You might even make a picture with the coin rubbings

HERO What makes somebody a ‘hero’? Is every hero the same? Do you know anybody who is a hero? Have-a-Go at drawing a picture of your hero . What have they done that is special and ‘heroic’?

Thurs Day 4 |
Today you will be doing some role-play in Maths. Set up a toy shop in your house. Label some toys with price tags (1p, 2p, 5p and 10p). Play shop with a family member taking turns being the shop keeper or the customer. Use real coins to buy items.

This week we are learning all about caterpillars and butterflies and listening to the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. For some of our activities we will use White Rose (early years), The activities cover a lot of different areas of learning in our Early Years Curriculum.
Don’t forget to read with your child everyday too. Teach your monster to read is also a fun way to keep learning phonics.

Monday Day 1 |
(Early Years Day 1) Shape Hunter! The Hungry Caterpillar is full of a certain shape as he keeps on munching through everything! Do you know why the holes he leaves are like that?

Tuesday Day 2 |
(Early Years Day 2) Make caterpillars of different lengths. You can draw or paint your caterpillar using circles.
How many body parts has he got? Count together and then talk about how many there would be if there was one more or two more. |
Go on a minibeast adventure and learn more about butterflies
Can you draw and label the life cycle of a caterpillar? Think about what happens first, next and finally

Fold thin strips of card into different lengths. What can you make. Is it a worm, a snake or a caterpillar?
Which is longer? Which is shorter? Add a head and face. Maybe you could use playdough or plasticine to make long and short creatures.

Wed Day 3 |
(Early years Day 3) Explore your fruit bowl and look at what's in it! How we can sort it? What groups have you got in there? How can you combine these to make some maths problems? Can you make some fruity patterns? |

This week we are going to learn about animals that live in rain forests and has chosen some fun videos and songs for you to enjoy. In maths we are learning about number bonds to 10 with Farmer Pete, DJ Count and the Number blocks.
The activities cover a lot of different areas of learning in our Early Years Curriculum.

Learn your number bonds with Farmer Pete
A number bond is simply a pair of numbers that adds up to another number. "Getting" how numbers are made up is a crucial skill for children so a really good understanding of number bonds - and even some learning by rote of number bonds to 10 - can be very useful.

Use Lego bricks in two different colours. Choose ten of each colour Build a tower of bricks using as many different combinations of the same 2 colours as possible. Start by building 6 towers for the number bonds of 10

Talk about planning an exhibition through the rainforest. Will it be hot or cold? What will we need to take? Play a memory game ‘In my backpack I will take a magnifying glass, a map……………..
Phonics: Write up to 3 words with each of these graphemes: - j- v- w *Alternatively, adults can write graphemes on to post-it notes that the children can then take and arrange to make up words (eg: jar, vet, week etc.) Ask the children to find the correct grapheme and sound it out accurately.

During the story, Elmer realises that he likes being unique and special. What makes you special? Are you very good at doing something? Are you kind, funny or helpful? Draw a picture of something that makes you special and unique.

This week we are going to learn about the ocean and our learning is based around two stories, Night Pirates and Commotion in the Ocean. For some of our activities, we are using White Rose maths (Early years Summer Term Week 2 - 27th April). The activities cover a lot of different areas of learning in our Early Years Curriculum. Phonics will be added to Tapestry and Facebook every day. Have fun!

Monday Day 1 |
Subitise with a Pirate.
Subitising is the ability to look at a small number of objects and instantly recognise how many objects there are without needing to count. Watch this youtube video with your child to help them develop this skill.
Can you make number flashcards from 1-10 or 10-20 (ensure that all your numbers are the correct way around). Stick them up around your house - on the stairs, on doors, chairs etc. Anytime you walk past them can you shout the number? |

Can you draw a picture of a pirate? How would you describe him? Use your phonics to help you write some words e.g b-a-d f-a-t th-i-n or maybe a sentence. He is bad. He has one leg.

We hope you are all well and keeping safe. We are enjoying seeing your posts on Facebook and on Tapestry, it is lovely to see what the children are doing. It would be fantastic to see how the children get on with these new activities, please remember you can post on Facebook and Tapestry.
This week we are beginning to think about ‘Animals’ and our learning is based around two stories, ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ by Julia Donaldson and ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz. For some of our activities, we are using White rose maths (Early years) but starting on week 2 for ‘What the Ladybird Heard’. The activities cover a lot of different areas of learning in our Early Years Curriculum. Have fun!

Make your own jungle picture Talk about your picture to a grown up. Which animals have you chosen and what colours are they? Can you write a sentence about it? e.g. I can see a lion and a snake. I can see a yellow sun.

Dice games –recognising spot patterns on a dice. Try and play some other ‘dice’ games.
