Term 2 2021

Year 5 have enjoyed a busy term. We enjoyed the Halloween disco when we first came back after the holidays. It was excellent fun and we loved seeing everyone's scary outfits!

In English we have started a new unit of work based on "Escape from Pompeii" by Christine Balit. It tells the devastating story of two children who have to flee Pompeii. as the mighty Mount Vesuvius erupts. We are finding out about the key events so that we can write a newspaper report about the events that happened there.

We welcomed some very special visitors into our classes in November. They were from The One Tree Refugee Project. In the morning, Awet told his story of how he fled his home country of Eritrea for a safer life in England. We were inspired to do some artwork based on his experiences. In the afternoon, we heard traditional stories from a range of countries and had to create our own music to describe the experiences we had heard about.

We have carried out a range of science investigations as we are looking at reversible and irreversible changes. We have mixed different solids with different liquids and looked at ways to separate them, such as filtering, evaporating and condensing.
