About the Early Years Foundation Stage
The children in Reception are working within The Early Years Foundation Stage, which is the foundation to the National Curriculum. Children work towards the ‘Early Learning Goals’ which are split into 7 different strands.
PSED, Physical Development and Communication and Language – are essential and support development in all other areas of learning. Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World & Expressive Arts and Design – include the essential skills and knowledge for children.
The Characteristics of Effective Learning focus on how young children learn and are split into three areas: Playing and exploring; Active learning and creating and creating and thinking critically. These help develop each child’s unique learning style and build independent and resilient learners.
Over the course of the year Reception, staff will observe your child and gather evidence to show their progress. We record these observations on an electronic learning diary called Tapestry. You can also contribute to your child’s learning diary and we value your contributions to your child’s learning journey.
