Welcome to Year 2
Year Two is such an exciting year as the children develop their skills from Year One. This is their final year in Key Stage 1 and it is the point at which the children are formally assessed through SATs and ongoing teacher assessment.
We are really looking forward to a wonderful and exciting year! We know you will have an absolute fantastic year with us. We have so many interesting topics that have been carefully crafted to ensure you will have a year of high-quality learning.
We will start off our new school year with looking at the Great Fire of London and then linking this with the fire on the Grand Pier. We will think about how London has changed over time and develop our understanding of the term history.
In the second half term we will be learning about the UK, different countries and continents. We will look at important landmarks and use maps to locate the oceans and continents of the world. We will also do a mini unit all about mapping our local area.
We will start Term 3 by looking at women who have changed the world and the impact they have had on the way we live today. We will then move onto learning all about the weather and we will become weather forecasters for a day!
In the Summer term we travel beyond the UK to China to compare lifestyles, geography, food and culture. Back to Weston super Mare in the final term to look at the history of our seaside town.
These are only a few of the highlights! It's going to be a very busy year and we are simply delighted to welcome you and your families to Year Two.
